The other night I was putting my 4year old son down to sleep. Like I try to always do I was praying for him. Inthe prayer I thanked God for dying on the cross for our sins. After the prayermy son asked me a great question. He asked if Jesus had ran from the bad peoplethat put him on the cross. What a great question. Think about it. My wife and Ihave taught him that God is all powerful (stronger than everyone and everythingin 4 year old terms). Now if God is so strong why would He let anyone kill himon a cross? Couldn’t He just run from them and get away? Save himself from thebad people.
Well Iwas all over this question. I took this opportunity to explain Gods love for usand that He was willing to die on that cross. I told him that He meant to die.He let them kill him. “Why would he do that” he asked. Another great question.I explain to him that our sins are such as offence to God that we deserved todie on that cross. We all should have been the one that God killed, but becauseHe is such a loving God He choose to die in our place. Punishment had to begiven for our disobedience, and Jesus is the one that took the punishment forus. I don’t know if it sunk it, but he tends to remember and recall answersthat I have given to him.
I wrotethis to encourage you all not to water down the gospel. Even to a 4 year old.It is not a popular message. In fact it is an offensive message, but it is thetruth. Unless you repent of your sins and pleaded for God forgiveness you willbe punished for your own sins. I don’tcare who you are this applies to YOU.
